泰國為防止旅客逾期居留及為提升遊客素質，目前正準備於明年一月開始徵收遊客稅，泰國當局會因入境方式與逗留天數，收取約新台幣30或500元遊客稅。

據港媒報導，遊客稅分為2種收費方式，一種是由機場入境或逗留超過3天的外國人，須徵收入境費500泰銖(約500元台幣)，而由陸地入境或逗留低於3天的外國人，每日須付入境費30泰銖(約30元台幣)。泰國政府認為，此舉不僅能夠增加國家收入，還能確保遊客不會在簽證過期後仍逗留泰國。

泰國公共衞生部長表示，徵收的入境費將撥給包括旅遊、衛生、外交和入境等不同部門，預計最快明年1月1日開始實施，但為避免旅客到時產生混亂，也有考量推遲到1月中旬才正式推行。
