鐵馬休閒運動潮全台燃燒！繼屏東預計明年也將設立微笑單車之後，台中市現在也跟進這股熱潮，擬定明年中在台中各主要區域設立「i-Bike」公共自行車租借系統，且不僅可用悠遊卡，台灣通、高捷卡與ETC均能租借。

台中市交通局長林良泰表示，交通局預計將編列2年共1億元預算設置i-Bike。初期設點將以台灣大道為中心，包含市政府、七期商圈、中西區、草悟道、秋紅谷、BRT快捷巴士車站等地區約60站為優先試辦區，每站25台自行車。

相比於U-bike僅限制使用悠遊卡才能租借，未來在台中借用i-Bike除了悠遊卡外，台灣通、高捷卡與ETC也能通用，可以甲地借車乙地還車；收費則暫定每小時20元，但林良泰表示會向環保署爭取前半小時免費的補助。
